Calypso
After waiting for months on end, summer is finally here in Melbourne, Australia. There is something magical about summer and with Christmas around the corner, it feels festive and as if though Melbourne is covered with a summer breeze of joy. It's just a wonderful time of the year.
Today, as the mercury reached the high twenties (in degrees), I craved something cool. I went to the nearest juice bar only to find that freshly squeezed orange juice cost AUD10. Frankly, I would rather not spend that much. So, I went to my local supermarket and saw calypso mangoes on sale for only $2.50 each. I bought some, put them in the fridge and enjoyed one a few hours later. Oh boy oh boy, it was delightful. It also took me down memory lane just thinking about the time when I used to pick mangoes off my neighbour's tree in my not so adult years.
Calypso mangoes are visually beautiful and just pure fun to eat. There is no elegant way of eating a mango in my book. Just slice and consume. You can explore the history and features of Calypso mangoes here.
Life can be so serious and boring at times. Take a break from the grind, have fun… have a mango. And with that said, I just had a second one for the day.
